Laine, Korpisalo showcase their talents with painting projects | NHL.com

In the end, this is really not a fair fight.

When NHL International invited Blue Jackets players Patrik Laine and Joonas Korpisalo to participate in the team's drawing project in New York City last week, it matched two Finns with similar personalities but very different skills.

On the one hand, Korpisalo, the goalkeeper has the brush skills in his hands. Two years ago, when he drew a snow-covered Christmas tree as part of the team’s annual card painting project, he proved this, which left the observers. Under the deep impression.

Then there is Ryan, a versatile man (when he is not on the injury reserve team, as he is now), but he usually has a hockey stick in his hand instead of a paintbrush. Although his flashes on ice filled the highlights, his artistic ability seemed to be a grade lower than Korpisalo.

This was proved when the two painted on canvas for this work, which was used to promote the two in their hometown of Finland. Laine and Korpisalo face the challenge of drawing portraits of each other while speaking in their native languages-and joking with each other, they put together works of different quality.

Although Korpisalo spent a lot of time mixing colors to come up with the color he particularly wanted, Laine joked at the beginning: "I know I need a lot of orange to make this."

The two were told that they could paint each other in any way they chose-what they were wearing at the time, what they looked like on the ice or any other situation. Korpisalo immediately had an idea. His finished work needs no introduction, because he drew Laine's now famous opening night costume, including a purple suit jacket and matching purple sunglasses.

"It's good," Lane said. "It is much better than mine. I have seen him paint before. He is an artist, so he captures my personality very well."

At the same time, Ryan painted Korpisalo at the moment he saw him and completed the apron No. 70 provided by Korpisalo for the project to avoid getting paint on his clothes. It's not as beautiful as the goalkeeper's artwork, but it's great for people who claim to have no idea where to start.

Despite his lack of experience and skills, Lane said he enjoyed participating in the competition.

"It's funny, even though I hate it," Lane said. "I'm not good at drawing, so it's not in my cab. But doing that kind of thing is always fun, especially with Korpi."
